The kids at Perryman Village in Brunswick had their first ArtVan session inside due to the relentless rain.  The artist pictured here used the weather for inspiration, creating her own downpour with just the touch of a finger!  What a great example of the transformative magic of art!

When a picture looks rich in narrative, we ask the artist what the story is behind it.  We listen patiently while they dictate and then we copy their story onto the back of their picture so they can share it with others!  Here is a great example done recently by Abby, 6 years old:

“Magic Kitty”

Once upon a time the magic kitty is being hurt by an invisible lion.  The lion gave the kitty a different color body- green.  The lion is very, very, very, VERY  EVIL!!!  The lion doesn’t like kitties and will eat them.

The Momma kitty will protect the little kitty.  The mommy doesn’t like the lion.

This week we made robots!  It’s always so cool to see how projects evolve in different neighborhoods.  In Lewiston and Auburn, the kids really got into using the materials to create masks:

After being worked on by staff, volunteers, and local artists, the ArtVan Creative Council put some final touches onto our new van.

What an amazing, mobile, community art piece!

ArtVan participated in the 4th of July Parade in Bath for the fourth year in a row!  This year we were joined by Kaboom! DJ and the Bath Skate Park.  Check out some fun pictures:

If you watched the 6 o’clock news tonight you got a glimpse of our show in Portland! WMTW displayed photographs of the work at drawing room while giving a description of our program. How great is THAT!

ArtVan has an awesome new show opening at drawing room gallery in Portland this Friday! They’ll be pieces by ArtVan kids from Bath, Wiscasset, and Lewiston. The work of our after school middle school program, AVAX (ArtVan Artists Xtraordinare), will be highlighted. So, on your First Friday stroll, don’t forget to check us out!
